The Planets, Op.32
Highly-acclaimed Greek conductor Michalis Economou leads the orchestra on a musical trip across the solar system with Gustav Holst’s epic orchestral suite The Planets, whose seven movements each represent a planet and its corresponding significance in astrology.
The concert opens with Dmitry Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, which he composed in just three days to celebrate the 37th anniversary of the October Revolution.
Economou’s own work Elegies for Death and Life is inspired by a Romantic-era painting by John Martin, and is based on ancient Greek poems.
