Russian Masters I

Programme: Tchaikovsky Shostakovich In the first concert of our Russian Masters Series, we focus on two of the most prominent Russian composers, Tchaikovsky and Shostakovich. Highly acclaimed Russian pianist Pavel Kolesnikov joins the orchestra to perform Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto under the direction of French conductor Jean Marc Burfin. Written at the height of Stalin’s oppressive reign, Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony paints a vivid picture of Russia at that time and is a deeply personal composition for the composer.
