Europe Day Concert
TIME: 7:30 PM till 9:00 PM
This collaborative concert will feature musicians from the European Union Youth Orchestra as well as the Malta EU Presidency Choir and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. PROGRAMME Fiorini: “If” for tenor and orchestra The work is inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s poem, a fatherly advice to his son emphasizing human dignity and wisdom but more essentially what it undertakes to be a man. Beethoven: Symphony No. 9 Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is widely considered to be one of the composer’s greatest works, although he was so deaf at the time of its completion, Beethoven couldn’t hear the audience’s enthusiastic applause at its premiere. With its rousing choral finale which uses Friedrich von Schiller’s “Ode to Joy”, Beethoven’s Ninth has also stood as an important cultural symbol. The melody that Beethoven set to Schiller’s text is the anthem of the European Union. Brian Schembri – Conductor This concert is not open to the general public.
Concert organised in collaboration with Maltese Presidency of the Council of the EU 2017 and International Spring Orchestra Festival 2017
