Highly acclaimed international pianist Denis Kozukhin performs Maltese composer Alexey Shor’s ‘Travel Notebook’ Piano Concerto at a grand symphonic concert under the direction of Armenian conductor Sergey Smbatyan. The programme will also include Dmitri Shostakovich’s epic 5th Symphony.

The Symphony No. 5 in D minor, Op. 47, was composed between April and July 1937. Its first performance was on November 21, 1937, in St. Petersburg, then Leningrad by the Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra (now the St. Petersburg Philharmonic) under Yevgeny Mravinsky. The premiere was a huge success and received an ovation that lasted well over half an hour. The has remained in the canonic symphony repertoire the world over, ever since.
