presented in collaboration with Teatru Manoel RAOUL LAY Conductor Dmitri Shostakovich/Rudolf Barshai Chamber Symphony in C minor, Op. 110A Barshai’s orchestral arrangement of Shostakovich’s autobiographical String Quartet No. 8 is complemented with Ravel’s light-hearted Piano Concerto, composed “in the spirit of Ravel and Saint-Saëns”. The central part of the programme features two works originally paired together as Two Contemplations. The first piece evokes “the sounds of nature and happenings” whereas The Unanswered Question offers an example of the universal religion Ives conceived.
