Brahms & Dvořák
TIME: 8:00 PM till 10:00 PM
MICHALIS ECONOMOU Conductor Antonín Dvořák Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104 When Dvořák, then practically unknown, submitted 15 works for a competition, Brahms was so moved that he became his friend and mentor, and was instrumental in ensuring that the world paid notice to the Czech composer. Dvořák’s Cello Concerto, which will be performed by the acclaimed Italian cellist Enrico Dindo, is one of the greatest examples of the genre, and Brahms had observed that he would have tried writing one himself had he known such an achievement was possible. Under the direction of Michalis Economou, the MPO will also be playing Brahms’ beautiful Second Symphony.
