The annual joint concert between the MPO and the MYO presents symphonic dances from the East. This side-by-side project presents Stravinsky’s suite from The Firebird, a ballet which brought the composer
into the limelight and commenced his collaboration with Diaghilev.

Similarly, Prokofiev composed the ballet music for Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, yet refrained from his original idea to alter the plot’s ending. The programme also features Mussorgsky’s poem which initially failed to attract public attention but attained great popularity following Rimsky-Korsakov’s reorchestration.
